Climbing Cloud Ranch
Climbing Cloud Ranch sits at the top of McCray Mountain, overlooking the redwoods and river valley below. The property is part of a long-term effort to restore the land after the 2020 Lightning Complex Fire, which swept through this ridge and surrounding forests.
The ranch is also home to the headwaters of Fife Creek, a small mountain stream that flows down the canyon and joins the Russian River at Dawn Ranch, where most guests will be staying.
As a working forest and restoration site, the terrain includes hillsides, natural pathways, and ongoing ecological recovery. We have focused our efforts over the last two years on eradicating invasive plant species, planting native flora and re-establishing irrigation lines from our 40,000 gallon cistern. It has been amazing to see how the wide variety of pre-fire flowers and fruiting trees have rebounded with just a little caretaking. Every year, we have are surprised by dormant plants exploding with flowers and fruits. Their resilience continues to amaze us. However, the land is wild and we have by no means tamed it. For that reason,
…for everyone’s safety, we ask guests to remain
within designated event areas and use marked pathways only.
